While an undergraduate at the University of Miami, Gia Arbogast learned a position was opening up at a library branch in Carol City. She took the part-time job but, after a while, decided it wasn’t right for her.

Instead, Ms. Arbogast decided to use her degree in psychology and went to work in a drug rehabilitation center for teenagers. After 18 months, however, she was back in school studying for a master’s degree in library science and has been in the field ever since.

On July 6, Ms. Arbogast became director of the Miami-Dade Public Library system. Her goals are to keep the system relevant and let people know the myriad services their local library provides.
